VMFA Japanese Tattoo
Over 400 years ago, Japanese firefighters began tattooing dragons on their backs for protection as a symbolic coat of arms. This practice of wearing tattoos for strength, remembrance, and protection still goes on today, all over the world. We captured that concept in a fully integrated campaign that included a series of posters, print, a citywide Instagram scavenger hunt, bus wraps, college bus shelters, print, mobile, digital display, nontraditional collateral, a customized content sponsorship with Tattoo Artist Magazine and a block party, to celebrate the tattooing of the ndp building by a world-renowned muralist.
Because tattoos can be deeply personal to each person, we wanted to create a campaign that honored that by being true to the reasons people get tattooed.
